Mamie Van Doren Gives Advice on Love, Sex, and How to Have ‘Wild Experiences’

Van Doren was one of the '50s three (celluloid) graces alongside Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield. She had the smarts and pizazz to make her indelible mark on modern culture. She knew what she had and how to to market it.

In 1965, Mamie Van Doren wrote her second volume of memoirs My Wild Love Experiences. It was a follow-up to the best-selling first instalment I SwingMamie’s autobiography which “sold out 10 days after it hit the stands.”

Now, response to those who read it and demanded more, as well as those who missed the opportunity to read I SWING, Mamie pulls out all the stops and reveals MY WILD LOVE EXPERIENCES

Van Doren was one of the ’50s three (celluloid) graces alongside Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield. Though never quite reaching the cinematic heights of Monroe, or the occult notoriety of Mansfield, Van Doren still had the smarts and pizazz to make her indelible mark on modern culture. She knew what she had and how to to market it.

In With My Wild Love Experiences, Van Doren dished-up a series of supposedly raunchy vignettes from her life. The title promised more raunch than it delivered. What it did deliver was a series of helpful tips on sex and love and how to get a man…

Mamie Van Doren, My Wild Love Experiences, book, Hollywood

Van Doren knew she was beautiful from the age of eleven when men started giving her the eye and complimenting her assets.

I hadn’t realized until this moment that I…was on the threshold of femininity.

My bosom was swelling and my bottom blossoming.

And my legs, always a strong feature later on in life, were starting to look like hosiery ads.

Van Doren was learning about “womanhood” from her mother who “would not wear bra or panties.”

She instinctively knew that with her figure, tight, clutching underthings spoiled everything. And furthermore she was a free soul who wanted to feel free and what better way than not to get bound by bras and panties!

Moreover, her mother gave Van Doren “a long lecture” about her appearance:

“Don’t ever leave your blouse unbuttoned. Don’t let your skirts creep up too high. Don’t wear skirts that are too tight. Don’t show your body unless you have a good reason. Men often can’t control themselves. They want what they see. If you don’t see it, then they let you alone.”

Realising her potential, the pubescent Van Doren confided in her mother she was “going to try and make something of myself in Hollywood.” To which her mother replied:

“Whatever you do, try to do it first-rate. You’ll get it back double. Don’t be careless or slipshod. If you are, you’ll be second-rate.”

Van Doren makes her way to Hollywood. She soon becomes a star.

And now a star, Van Doren wants to share some her best tips.

A smart girl uses what assets she has. All of them.

Read into that what you will…

I don’t care what toy say, but a man if he has the knack can charm any girl.

Unfortunately most men are no charmers…

In every young girl’s life there is an “older man”.

I had one–and you show me an attractive girl who hasn’t had one.

But it seems to me the acquisition of an older man always requires a decision: Should I marry him even though he’s so much older than I–and gain money and position, but no fiery young love?

Or should I give him up and wait for true love about my own age? It’s a difficult decision to make.

You see, the problem is:

A Hollywood actress can do a lot of living and much of that living has to do with men–all sizes, all shapes, all mentalities.

Yes, an actress does a lot of living–and a lot of LOVING.

But even so:

Take it from someone who knows: Sometimes it’s darned hard even for Mamie Van Doren to find a man!

But even so:

Take it from someone who knows: Sometimes it’s darned hard even for Mamie Van Doren to find a man!

But what sort of man would Van Doren like?

I want a man who is a man. Not a tooth-picking, cigar-chewing, poker-playing, boasting, swaggering man. He can go sweat somewhere else.

A man should have some sensitivity around a girl no matter how masculine he is.

And I don’t like effeminate men.

I have enough girlfriends.

The effeminate man leaves me cold even as an escort.

The way I look at is that he has his problems and I have mine. I don’t need his.

But wait Mamie, what kinda men do you like?

I attract many men.

But I must select carefully because when I like a man I like him all the way.

Okay. But what kind of men?

There has been a long procession of men in my life. I’ve often tried to analyze my selection of men but it defies any pattern. I have been attracted to intellectuals and I have been attracted to the physical man…to sensitive men and to rough, mechanical men. I have cared for musicians, ball players, actors, fighters, businessmen and just plain rich men without jobs.

There is no common denominator. Of course, when an attractive man shows attention to me I take notice.

Did I say, you’re beautiful…

But the first step in my caring is that it is a man.

Okay…Any other advice?

One of the most important things for a girl to learn, if she wants to have the kind of wild love experiences that I’ve had, is to learn to pursue the exciting–the unknown. I always do.

You mean sex?

Let’s face it. Sex is important. And I think I can tell most girls a thing or two about it.

And?

I believe in pre-marital sex.

After all how can you tell the stew without a sampling?

I don’t think there is a girl alive who can tell for sure if a man can please her in sex and love until the moment arrives.

But what how does a girl find all this?

A girl can’t begin to have the wild love experiences I’ve had until she gets out there and mingles with the men.

Of course, shyness is a problem but…

If couples in love could, without inhibition, tell each other all their feelings in passion, things would be better.

Okay. And…?

One of the most important keys to living an exciting life is: Learn to accept people as they are–and for what they are.

It pays gigantic rewards.

Now you know! Though I’m not sure it’s much help…
