“JBK” – Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy in Georgetown in 1954

I always wanted to be some kind of writer or newspaper reporter. But after college... I did other things.

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was born in July 1929, at Southampton Hospital in Southampton, New York, to Wall Street stockbroker John Vernou “Black Jack” Bouvier III and socialite Janet Norton Lee.

At the age of twenty-two, in 1952, Bouvier met Congressman John F. Kennedy at a dinner party and in November of that year, he was elected as a United States Senator from Massachusetts. The couple married in 1953. The following year the photographer Orlando Suero spent five days with the couple at their Georgetown home in May 1954. Suero had been taken on to do a special photoproject of the Kennedys in an attempt to capture the everyday life of a US Senator’s wife with Mrs. Kennedy’s full permission. He also followed the twenty-four year old newlywed in and out of her political history classes at Georgetown University.
