Lewis Carroll’s work was given a blast of Ralph Steadman’s ink and pepper spray in 1973. The scabrous British cartoonist’s illustrations for Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland are a departure from John Tenniel’s original sketches. Steadman’s 70s Alice is no baby-faced doe-eyed innocent – she’s sly, rebellious, mischievous, political, vigorous and curious. And that’s just her eyebrows.
