London Cafes in The 1980s

We're in the company of photographer Peter Marshall, who took these photographs of cafes in London between 1980 and 1990.

Fancy a cuppa? We’re in the company of photographer Peter Marshall, who took these photographs of cafes in London between 1980 and 1990. There’s Leslie’s cafe and Cafe Des Chiens on the Isle of Dogs, Lorraine’s Cafe in Walthamstow and Len’s snack bar on Wapping High Street, a single-storey portacabin with a “Games and Viewing Lounge Upstairs”.

“Ain’t no airs nor graces ere,” says the owner of Paul’s Cafe, aka The Cockney Hideout, in Stratford. You can order any type of coffee so long as it’s the one type of “coffee” they do.

Come as you are…
