Gorgeous Maps, Diagrams And Charts by John Philipps Emslie – 1850s

John Emslie (1813–1875) was a British cartographer, artist and bookplate engraver. He created and oversaw the design, hand colouring and engraving of educational artworks.

In 1850, Emslie (aka John Philipps Emslie and J. Emslie) hand painted and engraved a series of charts and posters to explain advances in science and engineering.

His gorgeous infographics covering astronomy, geology, geography, natural philosophy and more were published by James Reynolds of 174 Strand in London from 1850 to 1860.
