David Jacobs Opens the Reading Butts Centre Tesco in 1971

In 1971 David Jacobs was called upon to open the vast supermarket in Reading with the help the glamorous Miss Ty-Phoo, aka Young Generation dancer and occasional Benny Hill performer Kay Frazer.

The brand new Butts Centre shopping mall (now renamed Broad Street Mall) was only partly finished in 1971 when its main tenant Tesco opened to the public in October 1971. David Jacobs, then most famous for presenting Juke Box Jury which had finished airing four years previously was called upon to open the vast supermarket with the help the glamorous Miss Ty-Phoo, aka Young Generation dancer and occasional Benny Hill performer Kay Frazer.
