There are about 1,300 shops selling tyres in London. Around 67% of the shops are independent an family-run local garages or mobile fitting operations. the percentage was higher in the 1980s which saw a boom for centralised “fast-fit” automotive centres. Peter Marshall was walking around London taking pictures of tyre shops, just as he did did with the city’s garages and cars.
