The Hostess with the Mostest and her Self-Heating Trolley

The Hostess trolley has been around for over sixty years, although to most of us they seem a relic from a 1970s dinner party.  The luke-warm, watery vegetables, usually served in a Pyrex dish or perhaps brushed stainless steel, turned to mush in the mouth while the indeterminate meat became a mixture of old leather and rubber. Back then, however, a hostess with any pretension to the mostest wouldn’t have been seen without one.

They are, inexplicably, as popular as ever and Crosslee in Halifax are still making tens of thousands a year while John Lewis, last year, reported a 50% increase in sales.
