These joyous found photos of Women in Trees were collected by Jochen Raiß, a photo editor based in Hamburg, Germany. a began collecting them after spotting his first vintage snapshot of woman on a tree 25 years ago. He found another. And then he began to seek them out. “The woman in it just looked so happy,” he says.
“I love pictures that aren’t perfect, that I know nothing about,” he adds. “Then, stories immediately being developing in my mind.” We love them, too.
“For me, the women happen to be taking a Sunday walk with their partners,” he notes. “They are well dressed, look happy, and some of them seem to be really in love. These are young people who went off with a camera, clowned around, and captured their happiness in a snapshot.”
These pictures and more from Jochen’s collection have been compiled into a lovely book.
