Back to the 1980s now, to look at some of the posters stuck on walls in London captured by Peter Marshall as he walked around the city. There are posters calling for Iran and the country’s leader Ayatollah Khomeini (1900-1989) to ‘stop killing children’.
Another tells passersby that Rupert Everett, Fiona and Bob Dylan are in the movie Hearts of Fire. There are posters put up in support of the striking miners and the fight that turned parts of Britain into battlefields, and others telling locals that “Big Money is Moving in” to London’s Docklands – omitting the message that the working class will be moved out (the change part of the story in the brilliant film The Long Good Friday).
And on the wall of a cafe named Cafe des Chiens on the Isle of Dogs – renamed in graffiti ‘Cafe des Failure’ – there’s news that Gerry Cottle and his circus are. So best look out. Many are just ripped and town on grotty walls and unloved buildings. London the 1980s was undergoing seismic change as the money moved in…
