Sean Connery (25 August 1930 – 31 October 2020) was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, being the first actor to bring novelist Ian Fleming’s suave and dashing secret agent to the silver screen and appearing in seven of the spy thrillers between 1962 and 1983.
Born Thomas Sean Connery in 1930, Connery was raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. He left school to become a milkman, a job which leads to an interesting footnote: his milk round included Fettes College, whose most legendary old boy is James Bond.
He joined the Royal Navy at 16, but was discharged with a stomach ulcer at 19. He then worked as a bricklayer, lifeguard and model. His break into film acting came in No Road Back (1957).
