Drawing from a wide range of sources, Albert Racinet created a book of art styles and wonders

Albert Racinet (1825–1893) created his L’ornement Polychrome as a visual record of the decorative arts from antiquity to the late nineteenth century and represents the work of  cultures all over the world. He published a second series which included later works, too.

Raninet  (Albert-Charles-Auguste Racinet was a French painter, fashion historian, illustrator and the author of books on costumes and ornaments. He worked for the publisher Firmin Didot et Cie. as an engraver and artistic director from 1869 to 1888, where his two major publications were L’Ornement polychrome and Le costume historique.

Published in 10 instalments between 1869 and 1873, the L’Ornement polychrome is a visual record in 100 plates of the decorative arts from antiquity to the eighteenth century.
