Brian Finke is photographing you eat lunch at your work pod. His series of office workers eating at their desks featured in The New York Times Magazine back in 2016. “I had complete freedom to shoot whatever people were eating and wherever they were around the offices,” says Brian. Nothing is staged. That really is a woman rolling her computer mouse beneath a slice of pizza.
Eating at the desk is seen as a bad thing. The NYT titled the feature “Failure to Lunch”. “Here’s How Sad You Look When You Eat Lunch at Your Desk,” said tech magazine Wired. Lunch should be the best meal of the day. Sat alone at your desk it can be. Shawn of the need to find a table in a soulless echoey building on your Tod or with a select co-worker (oh, how simply do office affairs start) and looking over a menu for a flabby meal, you can disengage your brain, embrace the hunger and stay at work. Moreover, there’s no need to put your phone on the table and check it every minute because your computer is right in front of you. Relax. As for the looming gastrointestinal peril of your keyboard, worry not. Those are your germs. You’re among friends.
