Elevated Trains New Utrecht Ave 56th St Millers Restaurant Brooklyn NYC 1978 Fisheye Minolta SRT-102 Elevated Train Line along New Utrecht Avenue and 56th Street. Brooklyn, NY. Elevated train superstructures, this one built in 1917, tend to create an "other worldly" atmosphere beneath it. For us photographically-minded, it forms a cornicopia of light-play with it's fantastic, created shadow world. We in NYC and other cities that can be counted on maybe one and a half hands are spoiled: 99.7% of cities don't have ELs at all, so here I am appreciating that fact. Streets nearby that have had their ELs removed, now look horribly boring and are "sunbleached" mercilessly after almost a century of cool, protective shadow. I speak of 36th Street, the Culver Line, razed in the late 80s. A damnable shame it was to destroy it. Scanned from a print. Minolta XE-7 with 16mm fisheye.
