On 10th August 1966, Mr and Mrs Buzidragis and their son Joe, winners of America’s Supermarket Sweep, repeated their prize-winning feat at a branch of Tesco in Brixton, London. The Buzidragis family from Hartshorne, Oklahoma, were ‘the world’s fastest shoppers’, having won the title a week previously in a nation-wide shopping spree contest. In 30 minutes they grabbed groceries worth more than $4500 from the shelves and deep freeze of an American supermarket. In London they received the cash equivalent of their haul and the sponsors, Pepsi-Cola, donated the same amount of money to the Variety Club of Grant Britain.
I’ve tried to find more information on the family and the contest. If you know anything, please get in touch.
