When in June 1987, Shirley Baker photographed passengers at England’s Manchester Airport, many of them would have been on their way to sunny Spain as part of their package holiday. Jake Clark first arrived there in the late 1960s when his parents moved to a fishing village in Mallorca. His father, Trevor Clark, took photographs of the British carrying on abroad in Francoist Spain (1936 – 1975).
The new resorts of Palma Nova and Magaluf were growing fast. Trevor Clark was soon working for package holiday operators Thompsons and Skytours shooting exteriors, restaurants and poolsides to sell hotels to next season’s masses. Thanks to Jake’s we can now see some of his father’s 1000s of pictures, more of which appear in ‘The Package Holiday 1968-1985’ compiled by Jake Clark with photography by Trevor Clark published by Hoxton Mini Press.
