To Barcelona in 1976 in the company of Manel Armengol. This was a year after the death of leader General Francisco Franco (4 December 1892 – 20 November 1975) and the end of Francoist Spain (1939 – 1975). This was a time of change.

On February 1 1976,  the Assembly of Catalonia (Asemblea de Catalunya) marched in Barcelona under the banner ‘Libertat, Amnesty, Estatut d’Autonomia’ (Freedom, Amnesty, Autonomy). Initially it was peaceful. The fascist Civil Guard waited. They were armed with rifles. Manel Armengol had a camera. Away from the brutality, what was Barcelona like?
