To celebrate Halloween, Robert E. Jackson has delved into his phenomenal photography collection and now shares this selection of square halloween photos.
As ever, Robert’s vintage finds reveal a mix of the odd, funny, unsettling and memorable. This big album testifies to the enduring popularity of dressing up for Halloween and how things fall out of fashion. Things like: adult-approved childhood smoking (see the picture above), cowgirls, cowboys, children’s clothes made from flammable manmade fibres and so much scary stuff produced by the Collegeville Flag and Manufacturing Company, H. Halpern Company (Halco) and Ben Cooper, Inc.

By the mid-Cengury, around the time when some of these pictures were taken, TV was having a huge influence on childhood.
By 1960 Ben Cooper, Inc. had produced costumes of:Minnie and Mickey Mouse, Snow White, Jiminy Cricket, Goofy, Zorro, Tinkerbell, Felix the Cat, Superman, Robin Hood, Yogi Bear and Dennis the Menace
Collegeville had Casper the Friendly Ghost, the Lone Ranger, and Woody the Woodpecker, along with characters from Looney Tunes and Star Trek.
