Have a Very Randy X-Mas: 50 Holiday Issues of Men’s Magazines (1940s-90s) NSFW

Share this:

december-1954 1977 christmas issues

Esquire (Dec 1954), Playboy (Dec 1977)

Say what you will about skin magazines – they were at least festive.  No matter how sleazy the periodical, they always delivered the Christmas issue.  Of course, they weren’t exactly observing the holiday so much as capitalizing on the fact that holiday issues sell more copies.  Whatever the motive, I’m glad they did because seasonal covers are fun to look at;  so, let’s have a look at some Christmas covers from the “naughty” section of your local newsstand.  Enjoy.

The inspiration for the title of this article.  Leave it to the International Quality Glamour Magazine to come up with a catchy title.

Esquire (Dec 1949), Jaguar (Dec 1960s)

xmas-issue-practical-photography-magazine

Practical Photography (Dec 1965)

Those of you who don’t consider Practical Photography a “men’s magazine” obviously haven’t read much vintage photography periodicals.  They were often just a typical nudie magazine – but with a “respectable” title.  Masquerading as a photography journal, they could have nudity without the legal consequences, and readers could enjoy it without the stigma.  Genius!

Escapade (Dec 1955), Companion (Jan 1983)

As this Escapade holiday issue exposes: Santa is really the mastermind behind the global sex trafficking trade.

Playtime (Jan 1980), International Club (Dec 1984)

As I recall, Playtime may have been an inside trade magazine for the Bunnies – so, not really a men’s magazine per se.

Yeoman, we are eternally grateful for the incredible content you provide…bravo!

  • Note the story on that 1983 issue of Hustler (bottom left):

“The Greenhouse Effect: Is Doomsday Coming?”

When I was in college in the early 80s, my roommate and I stumbled on a stash of Cheri, Oui and Club magazines that had been stowed away in our dorm room, presumably by a previous resident. Thanks for the memories, and merry Christmas!
