SoHo And New York City In The 1980s

Gérard Monger opens his incredible archive of image - we're looking up and down in NYC

Gérard Monger has been taking photos for more than 56 years. “I wanted to become a photojournalist,” he tells us, “but I became a computer scientist. I lived for a long time in the suburbs of Paris, Colombes and then Maisons Laffitte. Now I live in the center of France in Nevers. My favourite activity? Traveling around the world. I’ve around 18,000 photos.”

We’re delighted to be sharing highlights of Gérard’s tremendous archive of snapshots and street photography here. We’ll begin with his pictures of New York City in the 1980s and 1990. The focus is on SoHo and other parts of Manhattan.
