Florence Chadwick is shown four miles off the Dover shore during her record-breaking swim across the English Channel, England, on Aug. 8, 1950. The 31-year-old swimmer from San Diego, Ca., arrived at Dover, Kent, 13 hours and 28 minutes after leaving Cap Gris Nez, France.
