Record companies got a lot of mileage out of pictures of guys and girls (mostly girls) cutting a rug for their album covers – especially for those compilation LPs.  When a picture of the actual musicians just won’t do, chicks dancing will more than suffice for the cover of the record.  So, here’s a stack o’ wax featuring folks from around the world doing everything from the old-school Charleston to boogieing-down to some Euro-disco.  Enjoy.

You know it’s a good party when the astronaut hits the dance floor.

“Sugar, Sugar” – the biggest hit of the year, sung by Ron Dante for The Archies Saturday morning cartoon.  The story goes that the song was originally given to The Monkees by Don Kirshner, but they declined.

Wow, this swingin’ chick is really into it.  In fact, I think she may be making it a little awkward for her partner.  Take it down a notch, sis.

I don’t know about the music of Los Locos De Amor, but the girls definitely get my stamp of approval on their choice of dancing attire.

Pipe Major Donald MacLeod somehow managed to take a snapshot of my personal fantasy of woodland gals in short skirts dancing a jig.  It’s inexplicable.

This poor couple thought they were coming to a swinging dance party… instead, it’s just a creepy guy in a mask blowing a trumpet. At least it looks like they’re making the best of it.

Check out Creepy Micky snapping his fingers while he ogles the dancers.  (shudder)

This looks like a great time… although, I wonder why the girl in the orange sash is staring at the central dancer’s legs so intently.  What’s the story here?

Did you enjoy the party last week?

Which one?

You know – the party with the cream.

Oh God.  (Begins weeping and assuming the fetal position)

What better record to end on than “The Swingin’est Dance Party Ever!”  You can tell by the look on the kneeling guy’s face that the title is no exaggeration.  Wowza!
