The 1962 Hipster Coloring Book

Share this:

The modern hipster stereotype wears skinny jeans with a fedora and is always drinking a latte or an obscure micro-brew. The hipster of the early sixties was an entirely different cat.  He was a swingin’ bachelor who loved hi-balls and hi-fis, had a tiki bar, drove a convertible, and fashioned himself a ladykiller.

The November 1962 issue of Cavalier magazine featured an amusing look at the hip dudes of the day in their “Hipster Coloring Book”.  Enjoy.

The hipsters now would have man buns. Sorry, I’m a gen xer who doesn’t trust a generation that wears man buns.

And the bar in the car would serve artisanal coffee (is a bar in a car really wise?). That is, for those few modern hipsters who actually drive.

You forgot the obligatory fedora and ersatz Grizzly Adams beard.

(No one born after 1974 will get that reference)

True. And instead of making him breakfast in bed, the “chick” would be giving him a lecture on insectionality.

In her “jeggings” of course! 🙂

    This is gold.

The main difference is that today’s “hipsters” are boring phonies.

  • Freakanatcha

Today’s hipster will live in a tiny house about the size of one of those stereo speakers.

    Spoiler: They boned.

There are cobwebs all over the kitchen! How is a nude lady supposed to cook breakfast?!?
