London Olympics 1948: Photos Of The First Austerity Games

LONDON Olympics 1948: These Games were the second to be staged in London. In 1908, the Games had been controversial, with Great Britain accused of cheating, not always without reason.

The 1948 Games followed two cancelled Games. In 1940, the Games were handed to Tokyo and then Helsinki. The next Games were scheduled for 1944, in London.

So, After a 12 year break the Game returned. Germany and Japan were banned from attending. The Soviet Union chose not to attend. America topped the medal table with 38 Golds – GB got three. And the Austerity Games gave us these photos:
