A racecourse bucket boy for Darby Sabini’s razor gangs at 10, you spent 42 years behind borstal, prison and mental institution bars. Dubbed ‘the most dangerous man in Britain’ by two home secretaries, and honoured to be recognised as such. Then the autumn years – raconteur, author, coach-tour guide and elder statesman of British gangland. Your first ASBO at 89. You saw many to an early grave, nothing said. Now, after 90 eventful years, you too are brown bread. Here are some slices of your many lives…
